Aligned with Global Sustainability Goals
An important pillar of Greenstreet’s responsible investment philosophy is our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 SDGs provide a global framework for building a better and more sustainable future, addressing challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation. While all 17 SGDs are critical to achieving global goals, we have identified four SDGs that we believe we can support and positively influence through our investments.
SDG 4: Quality Education
We believe access to quality education is essential for long-term economic growth. Through our projects’ community and socio-economic development programmes, we:
- Improve the quality of early childhood development and pre-primary education
- Provide equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational, and tertiary education
- Support initiatives that build relevant skills for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Energy production accounts for nearly 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
In line with our mandate, we invest in renewable energy projects that contribute to South Africa’s energy transition. We also support local initiatives that enhance access to affordable and clean energy within surrounding communities.
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Through our renewable energy projects and associated development programmes, we promote job creation, skills development, and inclusive economic participation and contribute to reducing youth unemployment and expanding opportunities for education, training, and enterprise development.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Impact in Action
Our projects deliver tangible benefits within their local communities. Here are a few examples of initiatives that reflect our impact in practice.
Powering Change in the Community – Kouga Wind Farm
Kouga Wind Farm’s community development programme demonstrates how renewable energy projects can create lasting social value beyond power generation.
Through targeted investments in education, skills development, recreation, and health, the initiative has supported projects such as the rebuilding of a local crèche, the establishment of a public library, and the introduction of digital literacy programmes.
These partnerships are driven by a shared goal: to build self-reliant, sustainable communities that benefit directly from the long-term presence of renewable energy infrastructure.
Harnessing the Wind
Youth Employment Ignites Change in Umzamowethu – Kouga Wind Farm
In the rural community of Umzamowethu, the Kouga Wind Farm and local NGO partner Masinyusane are working together to unlock the potential of young people and create lasting impact.
Through initiatives focused on early childhood literacy, youth employment, and creative development, the programme empowers local residents to lead positive change within their own community. From reading support and art programmes to teaching and mentorship, the youth of Umzamowethu are helping shape a brighter future – one child at a time.
